Natural Smiles and Candids

Laugh, play games, goof around and do what you usually do

I want your session to be as stress free as possible. I will give a few posing prompts but mostly I want to see your natural smiles and interactions so that I can show you what I see when I look at your family :-)

It’s not about taking photos, it’s about building memories

this time with your kids is so important

I hope you never forget the sweet smiles of our children, parents, and grandparents. The smallness of our newborn's fingers and toes.

The twinkle in our eyes when we see our children.

STYLE TIPS

  • Skip the spray tan. We know that it can be tempting to get a spray tan to add some glow, especially if you’re showing some skin in the winter time. However, even if it looks good in person, spray tans often do not photograph well and can make your skin have unnatural orange tones. Your photographer is very skilled at knowing how to make your skin tone look gorgeous on camera, and they are able to give you the most gorgeous photos when you skip the spray tan and opt instead for just hydrating your skin with lotion or light body oil before the session.
  • Schedule a manicure. While we always recommend women getting a manicure and pedicure beforehand, don’t forget about your man! He might not want to get pampered like you, but ensure that his nails are clean, trimmed, and all dirt is removed before the session. If you are painting your nails, we recommend sticking to neutral colors (like your clothes!) such as creams and nudes. Some favorite shades from Essie: “Ballet Slippers,” “Matter of Fiction,” “Come out to Clay,” “Pre Show Jitters,” “San Tropez,” and “Topless and Barefoot.”
  • Get your hair & makeup done professionally. It will remove the stress of you struggling to get it perfect yourself at home and ultimately take less time, while giving you a better end result. This is the perfect opportunity to indulge yourself in a treat and enjoy a trip to the blow dry bar. For your makeup, we recommend having your eyes done heavier than you’re used to. This feels counterintuitive and might not feel like “you” in person, but it will show up better on camera. Makeup tends to look more minimal on camera, so it can help to have your eyes be highlighted more than normal.
  • Schedule his haircut. Schedule an appointment for your man at least 5 days before the session, but not more than 2 weeks. This will allow his neck line to be clean, but also give the fresh cut a chance to soften just a bit and not look so harsh. It’ll look like the best version of him!

COLORS TO WEAR

01.

Neutrals + Earth Tones

Neutrals + Earth Tones Neutrals and colors in subdued hues will achieve the most elevated look for your photo session, while bold and bright colors have a tendency to overpower and distract. If you want to incorporate a color into your outfits, choose a muted shade like “sage” instead of green.

02.

Coordinate, Don't Match

I don’t want you to look back on your photos and think that you took them in 1998, so avoid dressing everyone in blue denim and white shirts. Instead of having your outfits match, aim for coordination. You can get a coordinated look by staying within a similar color palette but avoiding similar pieces sharing the same color. If you want to repeat a color, limit only two pieces in the group sharing the exact same color.
